Kimberly-Clark and Walgreens team up to fight menstrual poverty in the U.S.

Strategic partnership between U by Kotex® and Thinx® with Walgreens seeks to address the growing need for access to menstrual care products and raise awareness of the importance of menstrual hygiene in the community

According to a study by the Alliance for Period Supplies (APS), one in three women find it difficult to obtain menstrual products, a need that has grown since 2018. In addition, more than 38% of low-income women miss work, school or other events due to lack of access to these supplies.

In response to this issue, Kimberly-Clark, U by Kotex® and Thinx®, are partnering with the Walgreens retail chain to address menstrual poverty and raise awareness about the growing need for access to menstrual care products. Through June 30, 2024, for every U by Kotex or Thinx product purchased at Walgreens physical or online stores, two menstrual products will be donated to the Alliance for Period Supplies. This program, developed by the National Diaper Bank Network, is responsible for distributing menstrual products through more than 125 nonprofit organizations across the country, including schools, youth camps, shelters and other community institutions.

Nicole Pawlukowsky, vice president of U by Kotex and Thinx, said, “Kimberly-Clark’s commitment to menstrual hygiene dates back more than 100 years with the introduction of the disposable sanitary napkin. As a founding member of the Alliance for Period Supplies, we are committed to eradicating menstrual poverty in collaboration with leading retail partners like Walgreens. Together, we seek to empower women through accessible solutions and promote their well-being.”

Since its launch in 2018, U by Kotex® has been a founding sponsor of Alliance for Period Supplies, contributing more than 50 million menstrual products. This effort has been supported by retail partners such as Walgreens.

Asha Saujani, Walgreens Health and Wellness Category Manager highlighted the importance of addressing this issue: “Many people in the United States are unaware that menstrual poverty is a significant problem. To address this ongoing need for menstrual products, Walgreens and Kimberly-Clark are proud to join forces to support the Alliance for Period Supplies. We appreciate Kimberly-Clark’s commitment and efforts to raise awareness for this cause.”
