Resolute strives to be a positive presence in its operating communities. The employees are an instrumental in that effort, admirably representing the company in countless ways and inspiring daily.

COLLABORATING WITH INDIGENOUS PARTNERS

In August, President and Chief Executive Officer Remi G. Lalonde toured Northwestern Ontario, meeting with chiefs of Indigenous communities and local mayors, and participating in a ceremony marking its 20-year partnership with Fort William First Nation.

On September 30, employees from its Ontario woodlands and Thunder Bay (Ontario) sawmill took part in ceremonies honoring Canada’s first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Teams from its Lac-Saint-Jean (Quebec) woodlands operations and Ontario sawmills engaged extensively with Indigenous communities – including Lac-Simon, Mashteuiatsh, Obedjiwan, Wabigoon and the Métis Nation of Ontario – on a host of issues, while employees from our Ontario woodlands operations and Thunder Bay sawmill explored opportunities to support Roots to Harvest, an Indigenous-led organization working to eliminate food insecurity.

ENGAGING WITH ELECTED OFFICIALS, PUBLIC AUTHORITIES AND LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS

Employees from Resolute’s Coosa Pines (Alabama) pulp mill held a cookout with State Senator Dan Roberts and the Alabama Forestry Association; a team from its Cross City (Florida) sawmill met with U.S. Congressman Neal Dunn; and employees from its Calhoun (Tennessee) pulp, paper and tissue mill discussed workforce strategy with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development in addition to taking part in a roundtable discussion with U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty. And in the spirit of keeping each other safe, a third COVID-19 vaccination clinic was held at Coosa Pines mill.

The Ignace (Ontario) sawmill welcomed 60 students from Lakehead University for a tour of the operation. In Quebec, Clermont paper mill employees worked with the Malbaie River Salmon Corporation to continue protecting wildlife in the river basin; six employees from its Comtois sawmill welcomed new immigrants at a special dinner; and employees from its Lac-Saint-Jean woodlands operations discussed issues of shared importance with five local boards and councils.

DONATING TIME, RESOURCES AND TISSUE PRODUCTS

The 2021 Resolute Golf Classic took place in person this year, bringing together over 100 golfers and raising $150,000 for two hospital foundations in Quebec’s Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean region. More than 30 employees from four Quebec operations (Alma, Kénogami, and Resolute-LP – Larouche and Saint-Prime) entered a dragon boat race to raise funds for sick children and their families; employees from Resolute’s Abitibi and Nord-du-Québec woodlands operations and Senneterre (Quebec) sawmill contributed 28 hours of volunteer time toward several local activities; and five employees from its Thunder Bay pulp and paper mill golfed in the Ambassador’s Northwest golf tournament.

In addition, employees from its Menominee (Michigan) recycled pulp mill gave over 20 hours of volunteer time to several local initiatives; seven employees from its Glenwood (Arkansas) sawmill helped out at the Pike County Rodeo, to which Resolute made an $8,000 contribution; and responding to an ongoing need in the community, the Hialeah (Florida) tissue mill donated 8,900 cases of bathroom tissue and paper towel to a local food bank.
