Tork solutions provide food safety and hygiene in the kitchen
For more than 50 years, Tork has accumulated experience in institutional hygiene in different industries, providing advice on hygiene and health in various economic sectors
Each year, approximately 600 million people suffer from illnesses related to eating contaminated food, as there are more than 200 types of different pathogens and toxins that can be transmitted through food, as indicated by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). That’s why Tork®, one of Essity’s brands, has more than 50 years of experience in professional hygiene in different industries, providing hygiene and health advice in various economic sectors.
Given this, some measures must be taken to promote food safety in homes, and, for this, the brand is based on the “Five keys to safer food manual” of the World Health Organization (WHO).
It is important to maintain high standards of cleanliness in the kitchen. This involves people washing their hands regularly during food preparation and sanitizing all surfaces and equipment used. In addition, it is essential to store food in closed containers to avoid contamination.
An important point for this first step is the importance of hand drying, the best method being to use paper towels instead of hot air dryers, as these spread 10 times more bacteria compared to paper towels by the number of drops that spread in the air. That’s why, in research conducted by Saint Louis University – a member of the Tork® Green Hygiene Council™ -, US consumers show an overwhelming preference for using paper towels over hot air dryers, where more than 70 % prefer this drying method in food services, offices and health centers.
In addition, WHO indicates that washing your hands correctly can reduce the chances of contracting a respiratory disease by 24% and by more than 45% the chances of contracting a stomach virus.
After this first step, it is recommended to continue with the following steps:
- Make a correct separation of raw and cooked foods: that’s because foods like meat, chicken and fish contain liquids that may be contaminated with dangerous microorganisms.
- Have a complete cooking of food: since this process is essential to eliminate bacteria.
- Keeping food at safe temperatures is another crucial factor: microorganisms can multiply quickly if food is kept at room temperature.
- Use safe raw materials and water – These items may contain harmful chemicals, so care should be taken when selecting raw products.
For this, Tork® has developed innovations and solutions that guarantee safety in each of these stages, helping both in the professional scope and in everyday life; like your industrial cleaning cloths. In addition, it presented in the Tork® 2022 Technical Report the importance of using an hand sanitizer with a minimum alcohol content of 70%, if there is no access to ideal hand washing with soap and water, emphasizing the importance of correctly following the washing process of the hands.
The goal is to support all customers in important processes, seeking to be the best option available on the market.
