Procter & Gamble strengthens pulp sourcing policies to protect forests

Company details pulp sourcing origins and highlights actions to prevent deforestation

Procter & Gamble (P&G) has announced efforts to clarify its pulp sourcing policies, aiming to eliminate the use of resources from forest landscapes and primary forests.

The company uses pulp in paper products such as Charmin toilet paper and Bounty paper towels. Data from 2023 shows that 33% of the pulp used by P&G originated in Canada, sourced from the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, and Quebec. Additionally, 24% of the pulp was sourced in the United States, 37% in Latin America, and 6% in Europe.

P&G’s forest commodities policy, updated in May 2023, mandates that its suppliers do not engage in deforestation or the degradation of natural forests. The company states that it uses only products from “responsibly managed plantations and production forests” and ensures that for every tree used, another is regenerated.

To ensure compliance with these guidelines, P&G monitors its suppliers through regular assessments, sustainability meetings, and measures outlined in its forest policy. This monitoring seeks to reinforce the company’s environmental commitments and mitigate impacts on biodiversity.
