Brazil’s pulp exports grow 15.9% in the country, to 9 million tons

Between January and June, forest-based sector brought US$ 5.5 billion in foreign exchange, an increase of 33%

Last week, the Brazilian Tree Industry (Ibá) released its Ibá Scenarios Bulletin, in which it provides data on the production of the planted tree sector. According to the document, in the first half of 2022, pulp production grew 7.8% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 12 million tons. Of this total, 9 million tons were exported, a growth of 15.9%.

“The forest products industry is going hand in hand with the new green economy that is being designed in Brazil and around the world. Companies in the cultivated tree sector develop more than 5,000 bioproducts essential to our daily life such as paper packaging, toilet paper, diapers, laminate floors, furniture, wood panels, among many others. With technology and innovation, items are sustainable alternatives to those of fossil origin,” stated José Carlos da Fonseca Jr., Ibá’s Executive Director.

“Consumers are demanding more sustainable products, and the process involves everything from materials and production to the life of these items as a way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This demonstrates how ready the industry is to meet the demands of society,” he added.

In this sense, the Brazilian forest-based industry has recorded advances in exports of all segments, bringing foreign currencies to the country. Between January and June, the sector brought foreign exchange to the country that totaled US$ 5.5 billion, up 33%, a result that favored the sector’s trade balance, totaling US$ 5.0 billion, an increase of 38.8%. China continues to be the main destination for exports of pulp produced in Brazil, reaching US$ 1.5 billion negotiated.

In the paper business, Latin America remains the main buyer, totaling US$ 966 million in negotiations. Paper sales in Brazil totaled 2.7 million tons in the first half, while the volume exported totaled 1.3 million tons, up 40.5%
