Domtar signs partnership with Université du Québec à Chicoutimi to advance sustainable management
The company will invest in research to strengthen boreal forest management in Quebec

Domtar has announced a new partnership with the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC), through the Centre de recherche sur la boréalie (CREB), to boost research into sustainable management of the boreal forest. The collaboration, which also involves Boisaco Inc., will receive annual funding of $430,000 over five years, for a total of $2.15 million.
With a focus on the preservation and sustainable use of forest resources, the projects funded will address issues such as adaptation to climate change, biodiversity, carbon balance, ecological regeneration and the development of innovative bioproducts. The initiative reinforces Domtar’s commitment to responsible environmental practices and science-based solutions for the forestry sector.
As well as advancing knowledge, the partnership will enable the direct application of the results in forest management, consolidating Domtar as a benchmark in sustainability in the pulp and paper industry. The funding will also allow CREB researchers to access additional resources from bodies such as the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ) and Mitacs.
