Georgia-Pacific Recycling’s digital platform recognized for innovation at Georgia State University’s Marketing Awards

Solution expands access for small businesses to the recyclables market and helps reduce landfill waste

Georgia-Pacific Recycling, a leading trader of recyclable paper, plastic, and metal, announced that its online platform was named a finalist in the 2025 Marketing Awards for Excellence in Innovation, organized by the J. Mack Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University.

Launched in June 2023, the platform provides small-scale recyclables producers with fast access to upfront pricing for more than 50 grades of recyclable paper, plastic, and metal. Additionally, it extends the same benefits available to Georgia-Pacific Recycling’s larger suppliers, including a broad purchasing network, logistics and transportation management, convenient scheduling, timely payments, personalized support, and the assurance that contracted recyclables will be properly managed — even when market value drops below zero — without being sent to landfills.

“All of us at Georgia-Pacific Recycling are honored to be recognized for our efforts to open the recycling marketplace to the tens or even hundreds of thousands of businesses that are currently left out or face significant barriers to participating”, said Blake Gordon, general manager of digital trading at Georgia-Pacific Recycling.

Gordon added that the platform has the potential to create new revenue streams for businesses, improve U.S. recycling rates, and reduce landfill waste. “Being honored by MAX Innovation will go a long way in helping us reach this new customer base and in achieving our goal of driving environmental responsibility for future generations through increased landfill diversion”, he stated.

In its first 18 months, suppliers using the platform collectively received over US$1 million from Georgia-Pacific Recycling and helped prevent more than 14 million pounds of recyclable paper, plastic, and metal from ending up in landfills.

Georgia-Pacific Recycling was honored at the 2025 Future of Marketing Conference, held in late February in Atlanta. The event is organized in collaboration with the Georgia State University Department of Marketing and its Marketing RoundTable, one of the longest-running in the country, comprising more than 50 senior marketing professionals representing major companies in Georgia.
