GP Cellulose announce its collaboration with One Tree Planted on a new longleaf pine habitat restoration project on private lands in the southeastern United States later this year. This initiative involves the direct participation of landowners in southern Georgia, who will play an active role in managing the existing longleaf pine forests and in the introduction of 10,000 longleaf pine seedlings, with the purpose to substantially improve the environment of multiple endangered species.
Through this initiative, the primary purpose lies in providing comprehensive support to landowners, facilitating their training and providing guidance on the implementation of prescribed burns intended to support the restoration of longleaf pine habitat. Likewise, it is planned to promote the most effective management practices in this region, which range from the cutting technique and use of mulch to carrying out periodic thinning, in order to stimulate forest growth, improve the quality of the surrounding water and contribute to carbon sequestration.
Georgia-Pacific, an entity with a strong history of supporting initiatives aimed at restoring longleaf pine forests and their varied fauna and flora, joins this cause. These unique ecosystems are home to an impressive diversity of nearly 900 species, rivaling tropical forests in biological density and diversity, making longleaf pine habitat restoration a top priority for a company committed to “Growing Responsibly”.
GP Cellulose’s commitment to driving responsible and sustainable growth is clearly reflected in these types of conservation collaborations, and the company eagerly anticipates its participation in this project, as well as future reforestation initiatives.
