Kimberly-Clark moves forward with project in Warren, US

Company works on infrastructure and economic development at former steel property

Kimberly-Clark continues to move forward with its project in the city of Warren, Ohio, after acquiring 559 acres of former steel property on Pine Avenue in 2023. Warren Mayor Doug Franklin said progress on the site should intensify in the coming months.

The manufacturer of products such as Kleenex and Huggies diapers maintains weekly contact with municipal representatives and Howland Township officials to discuss infrastructure needs and the formation of a Joint Economic Development District (JEDD). This type of district is established by contract between municipal corporations and municipalities to encourage economic development, create jobs and strengthen the local economy, according to Ohio State University Extension.

The city is also focused on solving flooding problems affecting Pine Avenue that could impact the progress of the project. A mitigation plan has already been implemented to minimize impacts and facilitate the initiative’s progress.

Although Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) records indicate that no new construction has yet taken place on the property, the Western Reserve Port Authority has confirmed that activities have already taken place on the site, such as the installation of a perimeter fence and dynamic soil compaction.

Final renderings of the future facility should be completed by the end of this month. However, there is still no definite date for the start of operations at the site.
