The company has signed an agreement regarding the main contractor works for two major remodeling projects involving foundations and buildings in its mill expansion in Sweden

Metsä Tissue, part of the Metsä Group, has signed an agreement with Skeppsviken Bygg in Skovde regarding the main contractor works for two major remodeling projects involving foundations and buildings in its mill expansion in Mariestad, Sweden. The expansion and modernization of the mill in Mariestad is part of Metsä Tissue’s Future Mill Programme aimed at world-class operational and environmental performance

Skeppsviken Bygg in Skovde has already been the main contractor for the initial part of the expansion, with responsibility for ground and construction works. The new contract covers foundations and buildings with the possibility of carrying out additional works. The contract covers new buildings in the expanded mill area, from the pulp warehouse in the north to the gatehouse in the south.

“The construction of the future mill in Mariestad is progressing according to plans with our ambitious goals of improved energy efficiency, reduced water consumption, lower emissions and reduced noise and odor levels. All elements are important for the success of the project, from infrastructure to new machinery and premises”, said Esa Paavolainen, Project Director.

“Skeppsviken is happy and proud to have been accepted as the main contractor. The project is of course important for Metsä Tissue, but also for the continued social development in Mariestad and in Skaraborg, where we now have an opportunity to continue to contribute to the positive development and continue the good cooperation with Metsä Tissue”, commented Peter Lennartsson, CEO of Skeppsviken Bygg in Skovde.

The foundation and buildings work will begin in the summer of 2023 and be completed in the beginning of 2025. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the investment.

In total, Metsä Tissue is investing SEK 4.2 billion (EUR 370 million) in the expansion and modernization of the Mariestad mill. The modernized mill is planned to be operational in the second half of 2025.
