Suzano, the global leader in pulp production, announced its financial results for the fourth quarter (4Q24) and the full year 2024. The company achieved a record sales volume of 12.3 million tons, a growth of 7% compared to 2023, driven by the start-up of the new pulp mill in Ribas do Rio Pardo, in Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, and the additional capacity of the paperboard mills acquired in the United States.
The increase in sales, combined with favorable exchange rates, raised Suzano’s net revenue to R$47.4 billion, an increase of 19% on the previous year. Adjusted EBITDA grew by 31% to R$23.8 billion, while operating cash generation increased by 40% to R$16.2 billion. Despite the positive operating results, the company reported a net loss of R$6.7 billion, impacted by the conversion of debt into dollars and hedge operations, with no immediate effect on cash.
INVESTMENTS AND FINANCIAL STRATEGY
In 2024, Suzano invested R$17.1 billion, of which R$4.5 billion was earmarked for the Cerrado Project. The new unit, the largest single pulp production line in the world, began operations in July and completed its learning curve process in record time. The mill helped reduce the company’s pulp cash cost by 6%, reaching R$828 per ton in the year.
In addition to productive investments, Suzano strengthened its financial discipline, reducing its net leverage in dollars from 3.1 to 2.9 times. The company also allocated R$2.8 billion to share buybacks and distributed R$1.5 billion in interest on equity.
COMMITMENT TO SUSTAINABILITY ON ITS CENTENARY
In its 100th anniversary year, Suzano reached the mark of 56,000 direct and indirect employees and announced a commitment of up to US$ 100 million in investments over ten years in research, education and sustainability. The initiative will be developed in partnership with institutions such as the University of Cambridge and the IUCN, with a focus on conservation, climate change and water management.
