Suzano announces a new pulp price increase for May

This will be the fifth adjustment applied by the company so far this year and will be implemented in all markets

Suzano has announced a new increase in eucalyptus fiber pulp prices for all regions, starting in May. The adjustments range between US$ 30 and US$ 80 per ton, amid high demand for the raw material in different markets and problems with supply.

In the Asian market, the main export destination of the Brazilian commodity, the increase will be US$ 30 per ton. Considering the current price this week, the price of pulp in China could reach US$ 740 per ton in May.

On the other hand, for Europe, the adjustment will be US$ 60 per ton, raising the reference price of fiber to US$ 1,440 per ton next month, the highest nominal value recorded in the European market.

In North America, meanwhile, the price adjustment will be US$ 80 per ton, which is expected to raise the benchmark pulp price to US$ 1,670 per ton.

According to Leonardo Grimaldi, Suzano’s pulp commercial director, in an interview with Valor Economico, the increase in the cost of sea freight due to instability caused by rebels in the Red Sea, the strike in Finland’s ports, as well as the closure of high-cost mills and below-normal inventory levels, support the raw material prices, which have been adjusted monthly in 2024.

This is the fifth adjustment announced by pulp producers this year, including Suzano.
