Natracare receives B Corp certification and reinforces commitment to sustainability
Certification recognizes the brand's contribution to responsible environmental and social practices
Natracare, a pioneer in the production of organic and natural menstrual products, has received official B Corporation (B Corp) certification for its parent company, Bodywise (UK) Ltd. The certification highlights the company’s commitment to sustainability, transparency and accountability, covering crucial areas such as governance, the environment and social welfare.
Natracare, which has been operating since 1989, follows principles that prioritize positive impact, especially in reducing the use of plastics and educating about sustainable practices.
“The very foundation of my company was focused on designing for environmental and social change,” commented Susie Hewson, CEO of Bodywise (UK) Ltd and founder of Natracare. She emphasized that the certification is recognition of the company’s alignment with its core values over the past 35 years. “We are proud to have met the B Corp criteria, maintaining our commitment to the values on which the company was founded,” she added.
B Corp measures the performance of companies in five essential areas: Governance, Employees, Community, Environment and Customers. Natracare, with its impact-focused business model, exemplifies intentionality in creating a positive effect, especially in relation to environmental conservation and the health and well-being of consumers.
B Corp’s Impact Business Models (IBMs) are an essential tool for measuring how a company is structured to generate specific, positive benefits. According to B Corp, “a company with an Impact Business Model is intentionally designed to create a specific positive outcome for one of its stakeholders.” These models are evaluated on various aspects, including environmental and social objectives.
In the environmental field, IBMs highlight three priority areas: the conservation of natural resources, the preservation of land and wildlife, and the reduction or remediation of toxins. In the social field, one of the main focuses is improving the health and well-being of customers. These guidelines promote a holistic approach, encouraging companies to operate with responsibility, transparency and long-term positive impact.
According to Natracare, the brand avoided the use of 195,995,880 grams of plastic last year alone through its plastic-free packaging and products, which equates to a saving of around 195 tons of plastic. In addition, the company prevented 11 million plastic applicators from being disposed of in landfills by opting for biodegradable cardboard applicators.
