Sofidel and ENGIE sign a ten-year contract for the supply of biomethane in France
The agreement will reduce carbon emissions by 4,600 tons per year
Sofidel has taken a significant step towards its goal of increasing the use of renewable energy by entering a ten-year contract with ENGIE in France. This agreement, one of the first in the tissue industry, focuses on the supply of biomethane for Sofidel France’s production plant in Roanne.
Biomethane, a renewable gas produced from the purification of biogas generated by the anaerobic fermentation of organic waste, will be provided by ENGIE’s plant, located near Sofidel France’s Roanne production facilitiy. This ENGIE plant will use sewage sludge from the municipality of Roanne and residues from the local agribusiness sector.
Under this contract, ENGIE will supply 25,000 MWh/year of biomethane to Sofidel France’s production plant in Roanne, which will cover 40% of its thermal energy needs. This transition to a renewable energy source will enable the company to reduce its annual carbon emissions by 4,600 tons, contributing significantly to its sustainability and environmental responsibility efforts.
