Last week, Canfor Corporation announced that Don Kayne, the company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, will retire at the end of this year. Kayne, who has been with the company for 46 years and has held the position of President and CEO since 2011, played an important role in transforming Canfor from a regional operation in British Columbia to a global presence, with operations in Alberta, the United States, and Sweden.
During his tenure, Kayne stood out as an influential leader in the forest products industry, holding several prominent positions, including President of the Forest Products Association of Canada, the BC Council of Forest Industries, and the Bi-national Softwood Lumber Board. His legacy is marked by a strong commitment to growth and innovation in the sector.
To succeed Kayne, the company announced the appointment of Susan Yurkovich as the new CEO. Currently the Senior Vice President of Global Business Development at Canfor, Yurkovich brings with her extensive experience from three decades in the natural resources sector, including 12 years at the company. Her background includes leadership roles in forestry and energy, such as President and CEO of the BC Council of Forest Industries and Executive Vice President of BC Hydro.
