In the market for 175 years, Domtar demonstrates all its enthusiasm in completing another anniversary and promises to celebrate it in various ways throughout the year. For the pulp, paper and packaging supplier, the future is now!
In more than a century, the company was built anticipating what its customers need and what consumers want to buy for everyday living. Its story is marked by successful reinvention and, as it continues to grow, it acquires even more confidence in its legacy.
With roots tracing back to 19th century England, Henry Potter Burt established Burt, Boulton Holdings LTD. The company specialized in treating lumber to prevent decay, and business grew as demand for railway ties and wharf pillings grew in Europe and North America.
As the company grew, he moved to Canada and founded the Dominion Tar and Chemical Company in 1903, which grew with Canada’s industrialization and diversified over the years, manufacturing chemicals, consumer products, construction, paper and packaging. Over the years it has acquired other facilities and companies across North America, some of which are integral parts of Domtar today.
A PREFERRED PARTNER
Currently, Domtar considers itself a critical and reliable supplier to a diversified set of pulp, paper and packaging businesses. For the company, its fiber is in products that people use daily, from bath tissue to book paper.
Leader in the sector in which it operates, the company provides solutions to ensure a sustainable and better future for everyone. “We are proud of the work we do together as stewards of natural resources, an employer of choice and a significant community investor,” states the company.
EMPOWERED BY ITS STRENGTHS
For Domtar, the company has become what it is today because of its experienced and dedicated employees, many of whom have stayed with the company for decades. It is not uncommon for several generations of families to work at Domtar. Its workforce, which has grown in scope and diversity over the past 100 years, has built deep customer relationships and its reputation for service and quality.
“Our people are at the heart of our agile manufacturing capabilities and reliable supply chain network that help us succeed and grow. Our story of reinvention continues”, emphasizes the company.
