Mercer International Inc. announces production pause for Peace River repairs

The company estimates a 45,000 ton reduction in NBHK production and is relying on its insurance to cover operating losses

Mercer International Inc. has announced a production pause at its Peace River plant to carry out repairs to the digester following a mechanical failure. The company estimates that the repairs and related evaluations will be completed by mid-October of this year. During this period, it is anticipated that NBHK’s production will be reduced by approximately 45,000 tons.

The company has also indicated that it has business and property interruption insurance, which will cover repairs and operational interruption, subject to established deductibles and limits.

Mercer International Inc. is a globally recognized forest products company with operations in Germany, the United States and Canada. The company has a consolidated annual production capacity of 2.1 million tons of pulp, 960 million board feet of lumber, 210,000 cubic meters of cross-laminated timber, among other products.
