Remember what marked the tissue market in 2022

The announcement of acquisitions, launch of new products and investments shook the industry last year

Despite an adverse scenario, mainly due to the economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the rise in input costs throughout the production chain, the tissue market overcame the challenges and ended 2022 on a high note.

During the last year, important movements took place in the sector, above all, the announcement of acquisitions, launch of new products and investments in tissue facilities. Therefore, the Tissue Online North America Portal separated the “top 5” news that most shook the industry last year:

1 – Sofidel celebrates ten years in America

During 2022, Sofidel celebrated 10 years of operations in the United States. The company, which stands out in the production and conversion of tissue papers through the Nicky and Papernet brands, celebrated alongside employees and their families in all seven US states where it has operations.

2 – Paper Excellence Group enters into definitive agreement to acquire Resolute

In July, the Paper Excellence Group, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Domtar Corporation, and Resolute Forest Products Inc. have entered into an agreement under which Domtar will acquire all of the outstanding common shares of Resolute stock. With this addition to its family of companies, the Paper Excellence Group will further build out its portfolio in North America following the successful acquisition of Domtar in 2021.

3 – Kruger Products launches new line of tissue paper products in Canada

In February, Kruger Products launched Bonterra, an innovative line of household paper products with a sustainable focus. Officially launched in Canada, the brand offers a range of products that include bath tissue, paper towel, and facial tissue.

4 – Morcon Tissue to invest $2.4 million in Great Falls facility in Chester County

In August it was announced that Morcon Tissue would invest $2.4 million in its Great Falls, South Carolina, facility with plans that include two napkin machines and automation equipment, such as case packers and palletizers. The upgrade would come after over $700,000 of investment in 2021.

5 – Kimberly-Clark celebrates 150 years in Neenah

Over the past year, Kimberly-Clark has celebrated its 150th anniversary around the world. In October, celebrations culminated in Neenah, Wisconsin, where the company began its operations. To commemorate this historic milestone and the impact the company has made on the city, the K-C North American team announced that October 22nd is now “Kimberly-Clark Day” in Neenah.

GLOBAL HIGHLIGHT

Worldwide, one of the main subjects reported during 2022 was the energy crisis in Europe, which led to historic price increases and warned of product shortages in markets such as the Netherlands and Germany – some companies reduced or even paralyzed their activities.
