Sunset Converting plans $30 million investment in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu

The expansion will add robotic equipment and production lines, connect two facilities and create approximately 15 specialized jobs

Sunset Converting Corp. is planning an approximately $30 million investment in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, as part of an expansion project aimed at increasing its production capacity and automating its operations.

The company, which currently employs about 125 people, has recently acquired the building at 597 boulevard Industriel, adjacent to its existing facility at 601 boulevard Industriel. The two buildings will be connected to create an integrated industrial complex and accommodate the company’s automation project.

The investment will include the acquisition of robotic equipment, the installation of additional production lines, and expansion and integration work between the buildings. The project is expected to transform Sunset Converting’s three occupied buildings into a more automated manufacturing complex.

The expansion is also expected to create approximately 15 specialized positions, including production line operators, automation technicians, electromechanics technicians and floor supervisors. As a result, the company’s workforce is projected to increase from approximately 125 to nearly 140 employees.

Sunset Converting began operations six years ago and has since expanded its customer base to include major distributors in Canada and the United States. Approximately 50% of its production is currently exported to the U.S. market.

NexDev has supported Sunset Converting since the company established its operations in the region, helping facilitate the development of its activities in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. For the latest expansion phase, NexDev worked as an intermediary between the company and several municipal departments, including urban planning, infrastructure and public works.

According to the organization, this coordination helped facilitate communication between the parties involved and advance the project while meeting municipal requirements.

The investment represents another stage in Sunset Converting’s development in the Haut-Richelieu region, combining increased manufacturing activity, automation investments and the creation of specialized jobs.
