Tork transforms the concept of professional hygiene and celebrates 20 years of the SmartOne® line

Essity’s brand strengthens its position as a global reference in sustainable and efficient solutions for high-traffic restrooms and launches a compact version for smaller spaces

In 2025, Tork, the world leader in professional hygiene and part of Essity, a global leader in hygiene and health, celebrates the 20th anniversary of one of its main innovation milestones: the Tork SmartOne® system, developed to offer greater efficiency, sustainability and hygiene in restrooms of high-flow locations such as schools, hospitals, industries and offices.

Launched in 2005, the system combines a patented dispenser that releases only one sheet of paper at a time with toilet papers that rapidly disintegrate upon contact with water, reducing consumption by up to 40% and contributing to the reduction of solid waste and pipe blockages. The technology reflects Tork and Essity’s commitment to promoting sustainable innovations that combine performance, cost savings and environmental care.

An example of the system’s impact was observed among customers served by the Tork brand, who reduced their monthly toilet paper consumption from around 200 kilometers to approximately 60 kilometers after adopting SmartOne®. The data highlights the significant savings provided by the technology and reinforces the system’s operational benefits.

“Tork SmartOne® was created with the purpose of making shared environments more hygienic, sustainable and efficient, supporting companies and institutions in promoting more responsible practices. Over two decades, the system has evolved and established itself as a global reference in efficiency and innovation in the segment,” explains Sarah Sampaio, National Sales and Customer Marketing Manager for Professional Hygiene at Essity in Brazil.

The papers in the line are made with FSC®-certified fibers from responsibly managed forests. Another highlight is the fact that the paper disintegrates within seconds after contact with agitated water (such as in the flush swirl), which allows it to be disposed of directly in the toilet, reducing the risk of clogging as well as the need for waste bins.

“Our commitment is to continue leading the sector with solutions that make a difference in our customers’ routines and in business sustainability. The Tork SmartOne® line is an example of how innovation can generate operational efficiency, reduce waste and improve user experience,” says Sarah Sampaio.

Over the past 20 years, Tork SmartOne® has become a transformative reference in the care of shared spaces, providing a cleaner, safer and more sustainable experience. “This is yet another initiative by the company to ensure the well-being of people and the planet,” adds the executive.

LAUNCH

As part of the continuous expansion of the line, the Tork brand presents the launch of the Tork SmartOne® Mini, a compact version of the system developed especially for smaller spaces and low-traffic environments. The new model maintains all the characteristics of efficiency, hygiene and sustainability of the SmartOne® line, such as the sheet-by-sheet release that reduces consumption by up to 40% and the rapid disintegration of the paper, but with a dispenser of reduced dimensions, more discreet and elegant for compact restrooms.

Made of durable ABS plastic, the SmartOne® Mini also features a key-locking system, modern design and high-durability components. Like the other products in the family, the new model uses FSC-certified papers, ensuring responsible sourcing and lower environmental impact. The Mini version reinforces Tork’s proposal to adapt professional hygiene solutions to different spaces and operational needs, increasing efficiency even in places with lower foot traffic.
