UPM Fibres restructures to centralize Finnish operations under unified leadership
The organizational overhaul will bring UPM Pulp, Forest, and Timber operations in Finland under a new Fibres Finland Operations unit, led by Petri Hakanen
UPM Fibres is set to streamline its organizational structure by consolidating its production operations in Finland under a single top-level entity. This move is part of a broader effort to simplify the business area’s operational framework.
Effective from 1 October 2024, UPM Fibres will be restructured into two distinct production organizations: the existing Fibres Uruguay Operations and the newly formed Fibres Finland Operations. The Fibres Finland Operations will encompass UPM Pulp operations within Finland, as well as UPM Forest and UPM Timber.
In conjunction with this reorganization, Petri Hakanen has been appointed as senior vice president of Fibres Finland Operations, UPM Fibres, starting 1 October 2024. In his new capacity, Hakanen will join the UPM Fibres Management Team and will report directly to Aki Temmes, executive vice president of UPM Fibres.
Hakanen has a notable track record within the company, having led the Uruguay Development Project from 2018 to 2023, which culminated in the successful launch of the UPM Paso de los Toros pulp mill in April 2023. He currently serves as senior vice president, Technology (CTO) for UPM, overseeing the company’s research and development activities and investment management. Hakanen will continue to hold this position until the end of 2024 while simultaneously taking on his new responsibilities within UPM Fibres.
