China introduces new standard for wet toilet paper to boost innovation and sustainability

Standard sets technical criteria and labeling to promote safer, disposable and sustainable products

The China Tissue and Industrial Textile Association (CNITA) has officially introduced a new standard for wet toilet paper. This regulation details aspects such as raw materials, classification, labeling, technical requirements, quality indicators, testing methods, inspection rules, as well as product packaging, transportation and storage.

Wet toilet paper products are divided into two categories according to their flushability: disposable and non-disposable. Disposable products may have words or pictures on their packaging indicating their flushing capacity, while non-disposable products must have a visible warning stating “do not flush”.

“The publication of the standard marks a new stage in the development of China’s wet toilet paper industry. The standard will encourage manufacturers to increase investment in R&D and improve product quality, guide the industry toward standardization, and improve consumer confidence and satisfaction in wet toilet papers. The implementation of the standard will promote further development of disposable and degradable non-tissue materials in China. “We believe consumers will enjoy a healthier, safer, more convenient and environmentally friendly experience as a result of this standard,” says CNITA president Li Guimei.

The standards were unveiled during CINTE at a press conference co-hosted by Henan Yixiang Hygiene Technology Co. (Deeyeo).
