Fire crews battle intense heat to contain blaze at Green Bay Procter & Gamble mill

No injuries reported as firefighters rotated to combat fireball and maintain safety in extreme conditions

Fire crews faced extreme heat as they extinguished a paper fire within the duct system at the Procter & Gamble mill in Green Bay, located on Eastman Avenue.

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department reported that while initially responding to a potential water rescue on the Leo Frigo Bridge, they were redirected to a fire at the Procter & Gamble paper mill.

Firefighters arrived at the mill around 11:30 p.m. on July 31, where the Procter & Gamble emergency response team informed them of a fire in the air handling system connected to two of their paper machines.

During the efforts to contain the fire, a significant “fireball” erupted from a vent on the building’s roof, authorities stated.

No injuries were reported, but due to the intense heat inside the building and the weather conditions, fire crews were rotated frequently to ensure they remained hydrated and cool.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Green Bay Metro Fire Marshals, and no estimated damage amount has been provided.
