Metsä Group announces changes to executive management team

Appointments include Esa Kaikkonen as Executive Vice President Strategy at Metsä Group and Sari Pajari-Sederholm as CEO of Metsä Tissue

Metsä Group has announced changes to its executive management team, effective March 1, 2025. Esa Kaikkonen, previously CEO of Metsä Tissue, will take over as executive vice president of strategy at Metsä Group. In his place, Sari Pajari-Sederholm, previously executive vice president of strategy, has been appointed CEO of Metsä Tissue.

According to Ilkka Hämälä, president and CEO of Metsä Group, the rotation of leadership positions brings new insights and strengthens the company’s decision-making. “Job rotation gives a boost to the Executive Management Team’s work. When experienced professionals move to new roles, they can offer new perspectives, strengthening our decision-making and deepening our expertise. This makes us better equipped to meet challenges more effectively,” he said.

With the changes, Metsä Group’s executive management team will be made up of the following members:

  • Ilkka Hämälä – President and CEO of Metsä Group
  • Vesa-Pekka Takala – CFO, Metsä Group, Deputy Managing Director, Metsäliitto Cooperative
  • Esa Kaikkonen – Executive Vice President, Strategy, Metsä Group
  • Juha Jumppanen – Executive Vice President, Metsä Forest
  • Jaakko Anttila – Executive Vice President, Metsä Wood
  • Ismo Nousiainen – CEO, Metsä Fibre
  • Mika Joukio – CEO, Metsä Board
  • Sari Pajari-Sederholm – CEO of Metsä Tissue

The changes are part of Metsä Group’s strategy to strengthen its leadership and improve its ability to face challenges in the sector.
