Paper mill in Bègles resumes operations under Global Hygiène’s command

After extensive modernization, the unit renamed Papeterie de la Lune resumes production with a focus on hygiene items and plans to expand in the coming years

The former Bègles paper mill, closed since 2021, has resumed operations under the management of Global Hygiène, a company specializing in hygiene solutions. The unit, located in Gironde, France, underwent an extensive modernization process over the course of a year and was renamed Papeterie de la Lune. Production resumed in April 2024 with an initial line of glued embossed products. The opening ceremony, held at the end of February, was attended by authorities, industry leaders and employees.

FOCUS ON THE PRODUCTION OF HYGIENE ITEMS

Installed on an area of 48,000 m², the unit previously focused on manufacturing paper for plasterboard and employed 90 people. It currently operates with a reduced team of around ten employees.

Global Hygiène’s goal is to reach an annual production of 12,000 tons of rolls of hand towels, toilet paper and medical sheets, mainly serving the professional and institutional segment. To expand its capacity, the company plans to install a second production line by 2027, according to the French financial newspaper La Tribune.

INDUSTRIAL INTEGRATION STRATEGY

With an annual turnover of 80 million euros and four industrial units, Global Hygiène plans to transform Papeterie de la Lune into a fully integrated paper mill, consolidating its in-house production and strengthening its market presence.
