Resolute shares 2023 sustainability performance report

The company’s report highlights significant advancements in emission reductions, improvements in health and safety, and strengthened community relationships

Resolute, a Canadian paper and pulp company, released its 2023 sustainability performance, highlighting significant achievements that reflect the company’s commitment to environmentally responsible practices.

In 2023, the company reduced its climate-changing greenhouse gas emissions by 52% compared to 2015. Since 2000, the company has cut emissions by 89% at its pulp, paper and tissue mills, equivalent to removing approximately 1.8 million cars off the roads. Resolute also achieved a 42% reduction in environmental incidents compared to 2015 and increased its externally sourced certified fiber supply to 90%, surpassing the 2026 target.

The report reveals that Resolute earned an A- leadership score in the CDP Forests, exceeding regional and sector averages. The company also improved its CDP Water Security score and maintained a B score in CDP Climate.

The company reported an OSHA incident rate of 0.63 and a severity rate of 23.1. As a result of meeting safety milestones, Resolute contributed US$694,000 to charitable and community organizations.

Total donations and sponsorships for 2023 reached US$1.37 million, including US$500,000 allocated to academic scholarships and research. Additionally, Resolute donated 200 hectares of biodiversity-rich land to the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

The company renewed agreements with several First Nations and advanced new projects, including a joint venture with the Atikamekw Council of Obedjiwan and the Fort William First Nation. Resolute also established partnerships with approximately 40 communities and indigenous organizations.

The sustainability report adheres to SASB Standards and the Global Reporting Initiative, aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
