UPM consolidates logistics team to operate the pulp port in Montevideo, Uruguay

In the coming weeks, the group will undergo an intense training and induction process to facilitate its adaptation and integration with teams across the entire production and logistics chain

After the inauguration, commissioning, and reception of the first ships, the UPM specialized pulp terminal in the port of Montevideo continues to consolidate its operations team. Recently, the first group of technicians and shift managers was chosen to be in charge of the logistics of UPM’s operations in Uruguay.

The group is made up of people with higher education, including engineering, graduation, and technician in logistics. This team will operate from the specialized terminal, where the pulp from the new mill in the department of Durazno will be received. The transport will be done by rail and then loaded onto transoceanic ships that will leave fully loaded for the destination markets.

This new infrastructure in the deep-water port of Montevideo – directly connected to a railroad – will allow the development of efficient and reliable logistics, improving the competitiveness of the agro-export sector.

In the coming weeks, the group will undergo an intense training and induction process to facilitate its adaptation and integration with teams throughout the production and logistics chain.

The terminal will operate uninterruptedly 24 hours a day, divided into four shifts, with an operating capacity of around 2 million tons of pulp and around 100 ships per year. This cargo means a 60% increase in the annual cargo exported from the port of Montevideo. Around 100 people will work directly and permanently at the terminal, and around 200 additional positions for loading and unloading ships.

The port terminal is a fundamental part of the UPM chain, and its consolidation marks the proximity of the start-up of the new pulp mill in the center of the country, where the planned tests in different key areas have recently started.
