
UPM has been awarded a platinum rating by EcoVadis, recognizing the company’s outstanding sustainability performance across four key categories: Environment, Labour and Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. This prestigious distinction places UPM among the top one percent of the 130,000 global companies assessed, specifically within the Manufacture of Pulp, Paper, and Paperboard industry, where the company scored 81 out of 100.
Sami Lundgren, vice president of Responsibility at UPM, emphasized the importance of EcoVadis’ evaluation, stating: “The feedback from EcoVadis, both on strengths and areas of improvement, is extremely valuable and helps us to continuously improve our sustainability performance”.
Lundgren highlighted UPM’s performance in specific areas, saying: “In this year’s assessment, I would like to highlight our good scores in labor and human rights and related policies. Our commitments and transparent reporting in areas such as health and safety, gender pay equity, living wage, and diversity and inclusion, demonstrate our intention to improve performance and mitigate risks. UPM’s top rating also recognizes the work we have done to promote sustainability throughout the value chain. We have a comprehensive sustainable supply chain program that drives compliance and risk mitigation and helps achieve our environmental, social, and governance targets and ambitions”.
EcoVadis, which evaluates globally operating companies across more than 220 purchasing categories in over 180 countries, bases its ratings on a detailed assessment of sustainability activities, including verified public information related to supply chain practices.
