Resolute Sets New SBTi-validated Climate Targets

Resolute recently announced that its new climate goals that have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
According to the company, climate action has long been a cornerstone of its sustainability strategy. Having surpassed its 2025 greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction target ahead of schedule, Resolute continues to increase expectations of its own performance. “That’s why we have committed to a 41.5% reduction in absolute scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2026 from a 2015 base year, as well as a 16.5% reduction in scope 3 emissions within the same timeframe,” commented the company.
SBTi has validated that these targets conform to the SBTi Criteria and Recommendations (version 4.2), and that Resolute’s scope 1 and 2 target ambition is in line with a well-below 2°C trajectory. The target boundary includes biogenic emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.
Science-based targets are emission reduction goals in line with what the latest climate science says is needed to prevent the worst impacts of climate change. SBTi – a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) – defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting and independently assesses companies’ targets.
