Essity introduces new menstrual pads designed for unpredictable flow

Essity has announced a new generation of menstrual pads designed to better meet the needs of people who experience unpredictable menstrual flow, one of the everyday challenges contributing to the global menstrual health gap. The innovation will initially be launched in Latin America and Europe.

For many people, menstruation is still marked by unpredictability. Sudden episodes of heavy flow and variations in intensity can lead to insecurity and anxiety, while also affecting confidence when carrying out everyday activities. In addition to access to menstrual products, menstrual health is influenced by physical, social and emotional factors, including stigma and a lack of information. This reinforces the need for solutions that reflect consumers’ real experiences.

According to Essity, millions of people continue to experience uncertainty and discomfort during their periods. Internal research and market studies indicate that unpredictable menstrual flow remains one of consumers’ main concerns.

In France, 38% of women with moderate to heavy menstrual flow report experiencing sudden increases in flow. In the United Kingdom, the figure reaches 60%. Globally, six out of 10 women say they feel anxious about leaks during sleep because of the unpredictability of their menstrual flow. In addition, one in three women reports experiencing sudden episodes of heavy flow.

According to the company, these figures highlight a persistent gap in menstrual health, marked by barriers such as stigma, misinformation and needs that are still not fully addressed by products available on the market. With its new generation of menstrual pads, Essity aims to offer a solution more closely aligned with consumers’ everyday experiences, contributing to greater protection, comfort and confidence throughout the menstrual cycle.
