Kruger builds major storage site for recovered cardboard in Trois-Rivières, Quebec
New $16 million facility in Pointe-du-Lac will hold up to 40,000 tonnes of material, enough to supply the plant for a month

Kruger is investing $16 million in a large outdoor storage facility for recovered cardboard and paper in the Pointe-du-Lac sector of Trois-Rivières, Quebec. The site, covering the equivalent of 13 football fields, will hold 40,000 tonnes of fibrous materials, enough to keep its fully recycled packaging cardboard plant in Trois-Rivières running for an entire month.
Currently, the plant can only stockpile three days’ worth of material, as recovered fibers are delivered directly. “This is a strategic plan to ensure there’s never a shortage of cardboard at the Trois-Rivières plant,” said Stéphanie Bouchard, general manager of the Fibres and Biomass division at Kruger Recycling.
The new facility is expected to be completed by year’s end, with a closed building to follow for fibers that require protection from the elements. Kruger will also shut down its existing storage site near Boulevard des Récollets, close to the plant, and transfer operations to the new location.
To further secure its supply, the company has acquired a recycling truck to collect cardboard from supermarkets and shops in the region. Kruger Trois-Rivières is recognized as the largest consumer of recycled fibers in Canada.
