Pulp companies announce new price increases

Main Brazilian producers of the raw material will readjust the price of hardwood in China, Europe and the USA, starting in July

Main pulp producers in Brazil, Klabin and Suzano should implement a new price increase for the commodity, valid for July, according to market sources.

Klabin, the only producer of hardwood, softwood and fluff pulp in the country, will apply readjustments in the price of eucalyptus pulp (hardwood) ranging from US$ 20 to US$ 40 per ton.

For the Asian market, the increase will be US$ 20, raising the price to US$ 860 per ton. In Europe, the company intends to increase the price by US$ 30, making the reference price for eucalyptus pulp reach US$ 1,380 per ton. For the United States, the increase proposed by Klabin is US$ 40, with reference price of US$ 1,610 per ton.

Suzano, the world’s largest producer of eucalyptus pulp, is also raising hardwood prices in the three markets. Like its competitor, the increases will be between US$ 20 and US$ 40 per ton.

In China, the increase will be US$ 20. Considering the value that had been announced by producers for hardwood pulp in June, of US$ 840 per ton in the Asian country, the new price would be US$ 860.

In Europe, the adjustment will be US$ 30, raising the reference price for eucalyptus pulp to US$ 1,380 per ton. In North America, the increase reaches US$ 40, causing the price to jump to US$ 1,610 per ton.

According to Fastmarkets Foex, the net price of hardwood reached US$ 843.40 per ton in the last week – an increase of US$ 31.20 in one month, which indicates that the June readjustment was fully implemented.
