Resolute shared highlights on how it ensures the sustainability of its fiber supply

The company is proud to source its fibers responsibly

Resolute Forest Products, a global leader in the forest products industry with a diverse range of products, including market pulp and tissue, shared a new blog post focused on fiber sourcing for the “2021 Performance and New Targets” series that recaps its 2021 achievements, sharing highlights of its progress, and affirming its targets for 2022 and beyond.

“Public commitments drive Resolute’s sustainability performance. Our sustainability strategy combines ambitious long-term objectives, annually revised targets and aspirational goals, carefully measured in the spirit of continuous improvement,” comments the company.

The company is proud to source its fibers responsibly and says forest certification and fiber tracking help to ensure the sustainability of its fiber supply and other forest values, including biodiversity conservation and ecosystem services.

“Strict adherence to internationally recognized forest management and chain of custody (CoC) standards demonstrates to our customers that the wood fiber we utilize originates from responsible sources,”

Regarding fiber supply and management, the company highlighted its certifications:

  • Resolute maintained chain of custody (CoC) certification to at least one internationally recognized standard for 100% of its certified facilities.
  • It also completed the integration of its Hagerstown (Maryland) tissue converting facility into the company’s multisite CoC certificate in 2021, and its U.S. sawmills completed their CoC certification audits in March 2022.
  • The company is committed to maintaining CoC certification at 100% of its manufacturing facilities.
  • 100% of its wood fiber is sourced in accordance with Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI®) fiber sourcing requirements, Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) CoC due diligence requirements or the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) Controlled Wood standard, and in some cases a combination of these standards.

While for fiber efficiency, the company highlighted that it reached its goal of recording fiber losses of no more than 40 kg per metric ton (mt), with losses of 39.3 kg per mt., in addition to establishing annual fiber loss targets for each of its pulp, paper and tissue mills.

“All of our facilities have set fiber targets for 2022, and our company-wide fiber loss target is set at no more than 39 kg per mt.,” Resolute concluded.
