Talk Tissue with Scott Hubley, President of White Mountain Paper Company

The conversation highlights the revitalization of a historic paper mill in New Hampshire and its importance to the local community and the North American tissue industry

In this episode of Talk Tissue, Brian Uzcategui speaks with Scott Hubley, President of White Mountain Paper Company, about the journey of bringing a historic mill back to life and its plans for the future. Located in Gorham, New Hampshire, the site was founded in 1852 and has a rich history.

After the mill went into bankruptcy in 2020, Baron’s Investment Group acquired it with the intention of continuing its operation as a paper mill. The new ownership focused on a stabilization plan, addressing deferred maintenance and antiquated infrastructure on the 90-acre campus. The mill currently employs 54 union members and has the capacity to produce up to 35,000 tons of tissue paper annually.

During the conversation, Scott highlights several key revitalization projects. A major investment was the installation of a new, modern boiler to replace a 100-year-old unit that was taken out of service. Looking ahead, White Mountain Paper plans to continue its operational upgrades and is exploring business expansion, with the goal of becoming an integrated facility by adding converting capabilities.

Hubley emphasizes his interest in benchmarking and sharing best practices with others in the tissue industry to foster mutual growth and synergistic partnerships. The company’s efforts were recently recognized when it won the New Hampshire Business Review’s Business Excellence award for manufacturing.
