Tissue Summit kick-off addresses importance of data, innovative solutions and ESG

With a diversified program, the 2024 conference is themed “Data Intelligence & Sustainability”

The Tissue Summit Brazil 2024 started this Tuesday, the 5th, gathering important players of the tissue and personal care industry. With a diversified program, the conference has as its main theme “Dice Intelligence & Sustainability”.

After the opening speech by Felipe Quintino, founder and CEO of Nexum Group, Valmet, a multinational company specialized in the supply and development of technologies, automation and services for the pulp, paper, and energy segments, kicked off the program with the talk “Eco-Digital Synergy: How data drives sustainability in Valmet’s solutions”, presented by Daniel Schroeder, the company’s commercial manager.

On this occasion, Valmet’s first face-to-face event since the acquisition of Körber, which gave rise to Valmet Tissue Converting, the executive presented the company’s complete tissue range, which includes the mash preparation, paper machine, rewinder and converting line. Also first-hand, Schroeder detailed the company’s new data tool, which complements existing technology and promotes the use of data to improve business performance. The data analytics platform has web access and sends data unidirectionally to the cloud, with various packages including a detailed scope of complementary services and will be available shortly.

Next, Solenis, a global company specializing in chemical solutions for the tissue and cellulose industry, gave a presentation entitled “Solenis innovations bring significant gains in tissue quality and profitability” by Noemy Svitras, Tissue Product and Marketing Manager.

During the presentation, Noemy explained an innovative Solenis solution, which consists of a creping technology that the company has been using for two years. This product allows greater robustness in the most varied process conditions, promotes low vibration, gives greater smoothness to the paper, with greater efficiency and better creping quality. In addition, the executive also detailed the benefits of using Solenis softener, for mass application, and its OnGuard TSD Analyzer tool, which measures the quality of the sheet produced, very important for process adjustments in paper production, focusing on monitoring aspects that help in decision making.

Valgroup, one of the largest producers, transformers and recyclers of plastic packaging, then complemented the program with a talk on “Innovation and Sustainability”.

Executives Lúcio Pinto, commercial director of technical films, and Eduardo Berkovit, director of institutional relations and compliance, presented the history, values and mission of the company, which has about 6,500 employees and 41 plants.

They also presented the main ESG goals and objectives, such as being net zero by 2040, using 100% renewable electricity by 2030 and recycling the equivalent of 100% of the packaging produced. Through sustainable solutions, life cycle assessment and advanced recycling, the speakers highlighted that the company has been collaborating towards a more circular economy.

Thinking about market trends, Thiago Karam, INCAPE’s operations director, specialized in the manufacture of waste cardboard for the tissue segment, presented the lecture “Sustainability and Innovation – INCAPE 2030”.

The executive commented on the 2030 agenda and how ESG is addressed within INCAPE, which created its objectives through a partnership with a consultancy but defined the company in its own way. In this sense, Thiago Karam detailed the pillars and premises that influenced the formation of this agenda, and explained how the objectives are based on the reality of the company, as well as the needs of its customers.

Closing the first block, Vitor Collette, Business Development Manager of Veolia, a company focused on solving complex global challenges related to water sustainability, wastewater treatment and process optimization, made the presentation “Water and sustainability in the pulp and paper industries: technological pioneering in Brazil”.

The executive presented the structure of Veolia Water Technologies and Solutions, which has more than 80 years, one thousand employees, three industrial plants and one thousand customers served in Latin America and demonstrated the company’s value proposition for the pulp and paper market.

Among the topics addressed, Vitor presented the ultrafiltration systems in water treatment developed by Veolia, solutions in effluent treatment and other issues, demonstrating practical cases. The manager highlighted that the company treats more than 11.4 mm m³ of water every day.

NEW FORMAT OF TALKS AND EXHIBITION

This year’s Tissue Summit has updated its conference format. Keeping the hybrid space – hosting the lecture and tabletop exhibition in the same place – the event provides greater comfort for participants to watch the presentations through headphones, with simultaneous translation into Portuguese and English, in the silent conference format.

In this way, participants have greater flexibility to follow all the content delivered during the event and check the solutions exhibited on the tabletops, in addition to facilitating networking and connection among participants.
