Companies joined up to turn hygiene products into real-time health monitoring
Partnership between Fitesa and LifeSavers develops nonwovens that detect irregular health makers early.

Fitesa, one of the largest and most innovative nonwovens manufacturers in the world, and LifeSavers, a startup producer of tissues that let you know if you are sick, have partnered to develop high-performance nonwovens capable of early detection of irregular health makers.
LifeSavers is a Jamaican company that recently received the prestigious IDEA Short-Life Product Achievement Award for a line of baby wipes that signal abnormal levels of glucose in the urine (a predictor of diabetes).
The two companies are collaborating to incorporate LifeSavers’ award-winning technology into Fitesa’s substrates, resulting in materials that would change color when in contact with abnormal indicators in body fluids such as urine.
“We are excited to collaborate with such an innovative startup. This work has the potential to revolutionize the hygiene market and deliver very tangible benefits for the consumers”, comments Rene Ruschel, Vice President of Technology and Engineering at Fitesa.
Georgia Crawford, LifeSavers Team Leader, confirms: “Collaboration with Fitesa is a life-saving opportunity, extending our innovative detection approach to a wider range of personal care products and health complications.”
The new line of enhanced nonwovens is already under development by the innovation teams of the two companies and the expected date for market launch has not yet been announced.
