Georgia-Pacific plans to expand premium tissue production capacity
The company has started the final engineering and planning phase for the installation of new structured tissue machines and related converting equipment to meet growing demand for premium tissue products
Georgia-Pacific announced that it has entered the final engineering and planning phase for the installation of additional structured tissue machines and related converting equipment in the United States. The initiative aims to strengthen the company’s production capacity for premium toilet paper and paper towels amid increasing consumer and customer demand.
The company stated that it is currently evaluating facilities located in the central and western regions of the country to determine where the projects will be developed. The selected locations are expected to be announced in the near future.
According to Georgia-Pacific, the projects are designed to leverage existing infrastructure at its facilities in order to optimize capital investment and shorten project timelines. Construction is expected to begin once the engineering phase is completed and board approval is obtained.
The first machine is expected to begin operations by the end of 2028, while the second machine is scheduled to start up at a later stage.
Vivek Joshi, executive vice president of Georgia-Pacific’s Consumer Products Group, said the initiative reflects the company’s long-term confidence in the growth of premium tissue products and its commitment to investing alongside customers to meet market demand.
The investment would also support the company’s brands, including Angel Soft®, Quilted Northern®, Sparkle® and Brawny®, while further expanding its premium private-label partnerships.
In recent years, Georgia-Pacific has invested in new paper machines at its facilities in Naheola, Alabama (2018); Palatka, Florida (2020); Green Bay, Wisconsin (2024); and Wauna, Oregon, where operations are expected to begin in 2026.
