Day Street Mill in Green Bay closes its doors after 122 years. This came after Georgia-Pacific’s announcement to gradually reduce operations over a period of 18 months, affecting nearly 200 employees.
In turn, some workers had the opportunity to apply for positions at other Georgia-Pacific locations, such as Broadway and Packerland, and others chose to retire.
Day Street Mill stopped producing toilet paper in May 2022, the factory continued to manufacture various products, including napkins, for retailers and major grocery chains.
Georgia-Pacific expressed its deep appreciation for the dedication and hard work of all plant workers, who have consistently operated the production lines safely and efficiently. In a statement on its website, the company said this wasn’t an easy decision to make, but it cited a change in consumer demand, bath tissue upgrades, and investments in other facilities.
