Irving Woodlands expands reforestation efforts with 34 million seedlings for 2026 planting season

The 2026 season represents a significant expansion in the company’s reforestation efforts, with more than five million additional trees scheduled to be planted compared with 2025.

Throughout the season, participants will develop teamwork and leadership skills while gaining a deeper understanding of environmental stewardship and the critical role forestry plays in supporting both a strong economy and healthy forest ecosystems.

Tree planting remains one of the most demanding aspects of sustainable forestry, requiring workers to perform physically and mentally challenging tasks across diverse terrain and weather conditions.

“You overcome a lot tree planting.” said Casey Sappier, Project Manager for the Northern New Brunswick team. “You’re in the thick of it, day in, day out and you’re doing manual labour.”

Each tree planter is capable of planting approximately 2,000 seedlings per day. The seedlings include a variety of carefully selected species that help restore the forest’s natural mosaic and support long-term ecosystem resilience.

 

“It is important to plant trees to be a sustainable company,” said Casey.

Since 1957, Irving Woodlands’ planting teams have planted more than 1.1 billion trees, helping ensure that 100% of harvested areas are successfully reforested while supporting natural forest regeneration.

As the forests mature, the newly planted trees contribute to improved soil quality, provide habitat for wildlife and help remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, reinforcing the environmental benefits of responsible forest management.

The annual planting program reflects Irving Woodlands’ long-term commitment to growing more trees than it harvests and preserving healthy forests for future generations.
