Metsä Fibre, part of the Metsä Group, announced that it will start negotiations on possible layoffs due to a long interruption in production caused by a gas explosion at the bioproducts mill’s evaporation plant in Kemi in March.
Production at the factory will start after the repair work is completed, at the end of June, according to the company. The investigation into the damage will continue and the schedule will be updated as the investigations progress.
According to the company, the changeover negotiations will begin in 15 weeks and will involve the entire workforce of the bioproducts factory in Kemi, some 300 people in total.
It is estimated that the planned measures, if implemented, could result in the indefinite layoff of several employees at the plant.
