Ontex Group to launch enhanced youth pants to support adolescents with incontinence
New product aimed to provide discreet protection, improve social interactions, and reduce environmental impact
Ontex Group NV, a prominent international developer and producer of personal care solutions, has announced the launch of its improved youth pants this fall. These new pants aim to mitigate the psychological impact of incontinence during adolescence by providing protection and discretion.
“Children growing up during the Covid years already had a tough time socializing, and the children who struggle with bladder control need extra support for social interactions. We design the pants so children with incontinence can join social activities like sleepovers and school trips, and enjoy everyday life”, stated Annick De Poorter, chief innovation and sustainability officer.
The updated Ontex youth pants are designed for children aged 3 to 15 who experience bladder control issues at night while remaining dry during the day, or who have a disability that leads to loss of bladder control. These pants will be produced in Ontex facilities using the company’s expanding HappyFit product platform. They will be available through both retailers and Ontex’s online sales channels in Europe, with potential plans for expansion into other regions.
Constructed from absorbent materials to provide protection against heavy bedwetting, the pants feature a chassis made of soft and quiet materials that enhance discretion and fit. Additionally, the new production process aims to have a significantly lower environmental impact compared to previous models, with efforts to minimize waste during manufacturing.
Bedwetting is a common condition affecting many children. Research indicates that 15% of primary school-aged children still wet the bed, with boys being more likely to experience incontinence. Bedwetting predominantly occurs at night and is the second most prevalent chronic childhood condition after allergic disorders. Factors contributing to bedwetting include difficulties with sleep arousal, nocturnal polyuria (excessive nighttime urine production), and bladder dysfunction.
