Resolute highlights its environmental management performance in 2020
The company emphasizes some themes of its 2020 sustainability report
Resolute is committed to managing the resources in their care with the highest respect, differentiating the company as an environmental supplier of choice. The company annually reviews its commitments and goals, which helps it improve its environmental management performance and reduce its overall footprint.
On its website, Resolute highlighted some themes of its 2020 sustainability report prepared in accordance with GRI standards. Following their long-term aspirational goal of zero incidents, they recorded 13 environmental incidents in the last year, outperforming 18 incidents in 2019.
In order to reinforce its commitment to environmental incident management and regulatory compliance, the company trained more than 200 directors, managers and superintendents through four virtual sessions conducted by its Legal team.
Another aspect highlighted by the company is the adoption of a preventive and proactive approach to environmental management – conducted at the local level by the managers of its operations and supervised by Resolute’s senior management. All staff work collaboratively at all levels to develop and implement environmental risk audits designed to identify potential non-compliances or environmental incidents before they occur.
Resolute also reinforced its commitment to certifying all its operations to ISO 14001 environmental management system (EMS) standards and reported that, in early 2021, its Menominee (Michigan) pulp mill as well as both Florida tissue factories – Hialeah and Sanford – have completed the certification process. Working to meet the standard’s increasingly stringent and comprehensive requirements, they also completed the transition to the new ISO 14001:2015 EMS certification across all their certified operations.
