Tork marks World Self-Care Day by promoting daily habits for health and well-being

In support of the Global Self-Care Federation initiative, Essity’s professional hygiene brand highlights preventive practices that contribute to disease prevention, personal well-being, and more sustainable healthcare systems

World Self-Care Day, observed on July 24, highlights the role of everyday habits in preventing illness and promoting overall well-being. In support of the initiative led by the Global Self-Care Federation, Tork®, Essity’s professional hygiene brand, has outlined five practices that can be incorporated into daily routines to enhance physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being.

The initiative comes as the World Health Organization (WHO) projects a global shortage of nearly 18 million healthcare professionals by 2030. Against this backdrop, preventive care and self-care are increasingly recognized as important measures to help reduce the demand for medical interventions while supporting more sustainable healthcare systems.

According to Sebastian Gabler, Customer Marketing & Ecommerce Manager for Tork in the Southern Cone, self-care begins with simple daily actions.

“Self-care begins with simple but fundamental practices, such as proper daily hygiene. Making clean and safe environments more accessible is part of the collective commitment to promoting health and well-being for everyone.”

Among the recommendations highlighted by the brand is proper hand hygiene. The World Health Organization advises washing hands with running water and soap for at least 30 seconds, paying particular attention to fingertips, nails, thumbs, wrists, and the spaces between the fingers.

Tork also emphasizes the importance of thoroughly drying hands with paper towels after washing. According to the company, drying is an essential step in the hygiene process, as damp skin can facilitate the spread of microorganisms, increasing the risk of contamination.

Francisco Salamé, Commercial Director for Tork in the Southern Cone, said that combining proper handwashing with effective hand drying plays a significant role in disease prevention.

“Proper hand washing and drying are essential self-care practices that help maintain personal health and prevent the spread of disease. Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that these habits can prevent around 20% of respiratory infections and 30% of diarrheal diseases.”

Beyond hand hygiene, Tork encourages people to maintain good oral health, establish healthy boundaries to manage stress, and set aside time for leisure and social activities. According to the company, incorporating these habits into daily life can strengthen disease prevention efforts while promoting overall well-being.

The brand also stated that self-care is the result of everyday choices that benefit individual health while helping reduce pressure on healthcare systems and contributing to safer environments for everyone.
