LC Paper Spain reports €53 million in revenue and begins producing paper from bamboo pulp

The company advances its 2025-2030 strategic plan with fiber diversification, efficiency improvements, and renewable energy investments

Spanish paper manufacturer LC Paper reported €53 million in consolidated revenue in 2025 and an adjusted EBITDA of €6 million, reinforcing its presence in the European tissue and paper products market.

Founded in 1881 and headquartered in Besalú, in the province of Girona, the family-owned company specializes in the production of both finished and semi-finished tissue paper as well as other paper products. It currently operates three production facilities located in Besalú, Sarrià de Ter, and Fornells de la Selva.

The financial results do not include contingencies related to the major power outage that affected several industrial sectors. Like other companies in the industry, the firm is pursuing a claim against the grid operator to recover losses caused by partial shutdowns and equipment damage resulting from the power disruption.

During the past year, the company launched its 2025-2030 strategic plan, which includes market diversification and the integration of artificial intelligence into decision-making and production processes.

As part of this strategy, LC Paper began producing materials made from bamboo pulp in partnership with The Good Roll, through a pilot plant located in Ghana. The initiative uses the world’s first fair-trade-certified pulp and represents a new line of development aimed at diversifying fiber sources alongside the company’s strategy of using recycled fibers.

The company, led by Pau Vila, has been operating in an environment marked by the energy and geopolitical crisis that has affected exports in the European paper sector and led to several factory closures across the region.

In this context, European producers must comply with the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) designed to promote industrial decarbonization. According to estimates shared by the company, this mechanism can create a cost gap of up to €46 per ton in certain products compared with competitors outside the European Union.

In response, the company has reinforced a strategy focused on quality, efficiency, and energy transition with the objective of strengthening its presence in new European markets. The closure of JIP in the República Checa could create opportunities to expand market share in Eastern Europe.

In tissue production, LC Paper improved operational efficiency during the past year. The finished tissue segment increased profitability despite stagnation in the horeca channel, supported by long-standing client relationships and customized projects. During the first quarter of the year, the company plans an investment aimed at expanding production capacity and improving efficiency.

In the energy area, the company launched a self-consumption installation at its Besalú plant in 2025. After more than a decade of administrative procedures, the photovoltaic park began operating in June with a capacity of 4.3 MWp, becoming the largest in the province.

The company also operates a biomass boiler that generates thermal energy using residues from nearby forest cleaning. In addition, in 2022 it adapted its industrial circuit to process biomethane produced from livestock waste from the local meat industry, in line with its sustainability and energy efficiency strategy.
