Metsä Group receives high CDP rating for leadership in the fight against climate change

Tissue and vegetable paper business stands out for commitment to sustainability and environmental transparency

Metsä Group has obtained the second highest score of “A-” according to CDP’s assessment, highlighting its leadership in the fight against climate change. Each year, this organization evaluates the environmental transparency and climate performance of companies. This is also the second time that Metsä Group’s tissue and vegetable paper business has completed the Climate Change Survey.

The result obtained exceeds the European regional average at level nivel “B” and the global average level “ B-”  in the wood and paper materials sector. The “A-” rating is considered the leading standard for environmental transparency according to the CDP scale.

Johanna Kesti, Senior Vice President of Metsä Tissue, said, “We are very pleased with this result, as it demonstrates our consistent and determined work in the fight against climate change. We will continue our systematic efforts to advance our ambitious sustainability goals also in the future.”

In its communication to CDP, Metsä Group’s tissue and vegetable paper business detailed its actions to reduce emissions by 2022, which included the renewal of machinery at one of its mills in Finland, increased use of recycled plastics in packaging, and pilot tests to use wood pellets in heat generation at a mill in Germany.

CDP, a global non-profit organization, collects environmental data from companies around the world in areas such as climate change, water security and forests. In 2023, more than 23,000 companies disclosed information through CDP, responding to the growing demand for environmental transparency from financial institutions, customers and decision-makers.
