Autotec advances roll handling innovation as automation reshapes tissue operations

In this Talk Tissue conversation, Brian Steenrod discusses new developments, industry shifts and what’s ahead for 2026

In a new edition of Talk Tissue, Brian Uzcategui, co-founder of Tissue Online North America, welcomed back Brian Steenrod, Vice President of Roll Handling Technology at Autotec Solutions, for their second recorded conversation. Building on their first discussion, Steenrod shared what has changed from 2025 to 2026, highlighting significant development progress and new automation solutions designed to support tissue producers.

Among the key advancements are new roll handling technologies focused on unloading parent rolls from the winder, along with additional solutions currently in development. More details are expected to be unveiled at the Tissue Summit North America, where Autotec Solution will participate as a sponsor.

During the conversation, the executives emphasized that automation in both paper mills and converting operations is increasingly critical to improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and enhance workplace safety by preventing injuries and minimizing lost-time incidents.

The discussion also explored the current industry landscape, marked by major investment announcements in new facilities alongside factory closures. In this environment, Autotec’s approach centers on understanding the customer’s operational pain points and delivering out-of-the-box solutions that generate measurable ROI and cost savings.

Autotec Solutions will be present at two major industry events this year: TAPPICon (April 26–29, Columbus, OH) and the Tissue Summit North America (November 2–3, Green Bay, WI), where further innovations are expected to be showcased.
