Essity expands its coreless tissue innovation across Europe
A new production line in Mannheim, Germany, will supply Central Europe with more sustainable hygiene solutions
Essity announced the expansion of its coreless tissue technology across Central Europe, positioning itself as the first and only consumer goods company to produce and commercialize this type of product in Europe. The initiative includes the launch of household towels and toilet paper under the Zewa, Tempo and Plenty brands.
As part of this expansion, the company has started up a new production line at its Mannheim plant in Germany, aimed at meeting the growing demand for high-performance and sustainable hygiene products.
According to Essity, removing the cardboard core and optimizing packaging help reduce waste, improve transport and storage efficiency, and increase the number of sheets per roll. In addition, the use of renewable energy at the Mannheim site further supports the reduction of environmental impact.
Life cycle assessments conducted by the company show that this technology delivers an approximately 10% reduction in product carbon footprint compared with conventional household towel formats.
Through this investment, Essity strengthens its commitment to innovation, operational excellence and environmental responsibility, reinforcing its long-term sustainability strategy.
