Inertia South Korea launches Prism Pads in the United States with plant-based technology for feminine care

The innovation features a cellulose-based absorbent core that replaces synthetic polymers, addressing demand for more sustainable and transparent products

Inertia, a South Korean femtech company founded by scientists from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), has announced its entry into the United States market with Prism Pads, a new generation of disposable menstrual pads developed using plant-based technology.

The core innovation behind the product is LABOCELL, a cellulose-based absorbent matrix designed to replace synthetic superabsorbent polymers (SAPs), which are widely used in most products on the market, including those labeled as organic. This technology aims to deliver effective absorption while remaining lightweight and breathable.

Unlike many existing products that use organic cotton only on the top layer, Prism Pads incorporate plant-based materials throughout their structure. The pads combine an OCS-certified organic cotton topsheet, a bio-based absorbent core and a sugarcane-derived backsheet, eliminating the use of plastic-based SAPs, chlorine, fragrances and dyes.

The product also holds certifications such as USDA Certified Biobased Product, with 82% biobased content, and Dermatest 5-Star certification for skin compatibility.

In its home market, the company has achieved strong traction, with more than 10 million units sold since launch and ranking as the number one feminine care product at Olive Young, South Korea’s largest health and beauty retailer. With its entry into the United States, Inertia aims to expand its offering in a market where consumers are increasingly focused on product composition and sustainability.
