Sofidel invests in green energy in its logistics area
One of the world leaders in the market for the production of sanitary papers for hygienic and domestic use, the Sofidel group, which is headquartered in Porcari, in the province of Lucca, with 17 companies active in Europe and the United States, will replace all of its thermal carts inside factories and warehouses.
Since 1966, the Sofidel Group has coordinated the activities of satellite companies, capable of producing more than 1.3 million tons of paper per year, employing approximately 6400 people.
With the objective of eliminating emissions and optimizing the efficiency of logistical activities, the company is replacing, in all its factories in Europe, its fleet with electric forklifts, essential in all stages of processing: from the handling of raw materials to storage of the finished product and loading.
Most of the carts that make up the fleet are equipped with specific equipment, designed for the specific needs of the paper industry, including tweezers for handling cellulose bales and paper spools.
In addition, thinking about the safety of its operators, the company equipped the equipment with advanced safety systems, such as a safety light, capable of signaling the proximity of the vehicle and the anti-collision system that decelerates or stops the truck when detecting a pedestrian or another obstacle.
The company’s expectation is that in 5 years the entire fleet of the Group will have zero emissions.
