UPM Initiates Negotiations for Temporary Layoffs in Finland

UPM's Pulp, Timber and Communication Papers Divisions Seek Adjustments in the Face of Operational Uncertainty

UPM Pulp, UPM Timber and UPM Communication Papers will start exchange negotiations on possible temporary layoffs. The talks are being held with the purpose of temporarily adjusting production at the Finnish mills in case uncertainty in the operating environment persists.

The negotiations on possible temporary layoffs cover all UPM pulp mills, sawmills and paper mills in Finland. It is estimated that about 820 people at UPM Pulp Finland’s operations, about 340 people at UPM Timber’s sawmills and approximately 1,100 people at UPM Communication Papers’ Finnish mills are involved in these turnaround talks.

Regarding possible temporary layoffs, it is contemplated that they could occur between July 1 and December 31, 2024 at UPM Pulp and UPM Timber, and between September 1, 2024 and February 28, 2025 at UPM Communication Papers. Decisions regarding these temporary layoffs will be made upon completion of the change negotiations. It is important to note that any temporary layoffs could be implemented in stages and be limited to a maximum total of 90 days.
